Make Stepping Stones To Add A Personal Touch To Your Landscaping
If you want to add some stepping stones around your yard when you are doing some landscaping, but you don't want just any stepping stones, you can make your own. This will allow you to make ones that give you the exact look you are trying to achieve with your landscaping. Making the stones is simple and you'll be able to create something that will last for years to come. Follow the instructions in this article to create your own unique stepping stones.
The supplies you will need:
- Round cake tins
- Premixed concrete
- Any decorations you want to add to your stepping stones
- A putty knife
Making the stepping stones:
You want to prepare your work area by laying newspaper on the surface you'll be working on. Set the cake tins in the center of the newspaper. Open the premixed cement and use the putty knife to scoop the concrete to the cake tine. Add enough premixed cement in each cake tin so it comes to the top.
Select your decorations, which can include everything from small decorative stones to sticks you can use to spell out your name in the stone. Once your decorative pieces are in place, lightly tap the cake tin on the surface you have it setting on so the concrete levels out around the decorations.
You can also stamp designs in the stepping stones with cookie cutters, or with other items. In order to do this, make sure the concrete is at the point where it isn't yet drying, but it does have some added firmness to it. This way, you know the design is going to stay in place.
Leave the cake tins setting where they are until the concrete dries completely. Once you are sure they are dry, turn the tin upside down with one hand and use the other hand to hold onto the stepping stone. It should come out of the cake tin fairly easily. If it doesn't want to come out, let it set for a little while longer—the concrete may not be all the way dry.
Once your landscaping is complete and your stepping stones are in place, you will have a personalized touch in your yard that you can enjoy for many years. You can have a few stepping stones leading to your door or you can wrap them around the entire yard. If you need some professional help with your landscape, visit JK Landscape Construction.
